If You Love Me

(1)   What is the Greatest Commandment?

Matthew 22:37-39 Jesus replied: Love the Lord your God with all you heart and with all you soul and with all your mind”.  This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: “Love your neighbor as yourself”.

Mark 12:30-31 - Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” The second is this:  “Love your neighbor as yourself.”  There is no commandment greater than these.

Leviticus 19:18 - Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against one of your people, but Love your neighbor as yourself.

1 John 4:21 - And he has given us this command:  Whoever Loves God must also Love his brother.

Galatians 5:13-14 - You, my brothers, were called to be free.  But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in Love.   The entire law is summed up in a single command:  “Love your neighbor as yourself”.

Who do you consider to be your neighbor?

Who do you consider to be your brother?

God would have all to be saved and come to the Knowledge of the Truth (1 Timothy 2:3), but none of us started out that way (saved).  We all started out as sinners (lost) in need of a Savior.  Those not yet confessing sins and professing Jesus Christ as Lord are not yet saved, they are our neighbors (seekers).  Only those who confess their sins and profess Jesus Christ as Lord are saved, they are our brothers (believers).  Neighbors (seekers) have not yet decided that they want a Personal Relationship with Jesus Christ, they do not yet want to be His Disciples (followers).  Brothers (believers) want a Personal Relationship with Jesus Christ, they want to be His Disciples (followers).  Remember always that there was a time when others exercised patience toward us as we came to the Knowledge of the Truth.  So, be prepared to be patient with your neighbors (seekers) as they observe and make their personal decision.  And, remain kind and gentle toward your brothers (believers) as we all learn His Truths and His Ways through different experiences and on different time schedules.

Prayer:  Help us Lord to do the work of an evangelist.  In all that we see, say and do, may your example shine through, In Jesus Name, Amen.

(2) What is Love?

Galatians 5:22-23 - But the Fruit of the Spirit is Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-Control.  Against such things there is no law.

1 Corinthians 13:13 - And now these three remain:  Faith, Hope and Love.  But the greatest of these is Love.

1 Corinthians 13:4-6 - Love is patient, Love is kind.  It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Think of a time when you tried to love another in your own strength, without the help of God:

We are not capable of loving without the Power and Resources God wants to deposit within us for others to glean; therefore, we must go to Him in prayer and ask to be filled with the Fruits and Gifts of His Spirit.

Prayer:  Fill us Father we ask with all we need from Thee to go forth and be about your work, your will, not our will Lord, In Jesus Name, Amen.

(3)   If You Love Me, Obey My Commands:

John 14:15 - If you love me, you will obey what I command.

John 14:21 - Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me.

John 14:23 – If anyone loves me, he will obey my teachings.

1 John 5:3 - This is love for God, to obey his commands.  And his commands are not burdensome.

John 14:31 - But the world must learn that I Love the Father and that I do exactly what my Father has commanded me.

Think of a time when your obedience served as an example (to others) of your Love for God:

If we Love, we will obey His commands, and our obedience will serve as an example (to others) of our Love for God.

Prayer:  Dear Lord, show us in your gentle way that place where we are not yet obedient, that place Lord where if we would only change (stop, look and listen) Lord that You would meet us there and fill us with your Joy and Your Great Reward of Holiness, In Jesus Name, Amen.

(4)   If You Love Me, Feed My Sheep:

John 21:15-17 - When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter: “Simon son of John, do you truly love me more than these?” Yes, Lord, he said, you know that I love you.  Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” Again Jesus said: “Simon son of John, do you truly love me?” He answered, Yes, Lord, you know that I love you. Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.” The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time. “Do you love me?” He said, Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you. Jesus said, “Feed my sheep”.

Deuteronomy 6:5-7 - Love the Lord your God with all your heart and will all your soul and with all your strength.  These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

John 15:10-14 - If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in this love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command.

Romans 5:8 - But God demonstrates his own love for us in this, While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

1 John 4:20-21 - If anyone says, “I Love God”, yet hates his brother, he is a liar.  For anyone who does not Love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. And he has given us this command, whoever loves God also loves his brother.

Think of a time when you died to self (sinful nature) in order to feed his sheep:

If we Love, we will take the time to obey His commands and feed his sheep, and our involvement will serve as an example
(to others) of our Love for God.

Prayer:  May others know Lord that we Love You and that You Love us by walking with us Lord and satisfying our ever longing, by filling all the empty places in our lives with Your Presence Lord and Your Love, In Jesus Name, Amen.

(5) If You Love Me, Correct and Rebuke My Sheep:

2 Timothy 3:16-4:2 - All Scripture is God-Breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage – with great patience and careful instruction.

Hebrews 12:6 - Because the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes everyone he accepts as a son.

Titus 2:15 - These, then, are the things you should teach.  Encourage and rebuke with all authority.  Do not let anyone despise you.

Leviticus 19:17 - Do not hate your brother in your heart.  Rebuke your neighbor frankly so you will not share in his guilt.

Titus 1:13 - This testimony is true.  Therefore, rebuke them sharply, so that they will be sound in the faith and will pay no attention to Jewish myths or to the commands of those who reject the truth.

2 Thessalonians 3:14-15 - If anyone does not obey our instructions in this letter, take special note of him. Do not associate with him, in order that he may feel ashamed. Yet do not regard him as an enemy, but warn him as a brother.

Think of a time when you rebuked someone (reminded them of a command), distanced yourself and have yet to witness a change (repentance):

If we Love, we will take the time to obey His commands, feed his sheep and disciple others, and our determination will serve as an example (to others) of our Love for God.

Prayer:  Dear God, make time bow its knee to your will in our lives, Thank You Lord for giving us the time we need to discover your will for our lives, moment by moment and Thank You Lord for giving us the strength (Thy Strength) to walk in Thy Will for our lives Lord, with Great Joy, In Jesus Name, Amen.

(6) If You Love Me, Encourage and Bless My Sheep:

Luke 17:3 So watch yourselves.  “If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him.

Revelations 3:19-20 - Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline.  So be earnest, and repent. Hear I am! I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.

Proverbs 25:21-22 (and Romans 12:20) - If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink.  In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the Lord will reward you.

Psalm 6:1-2 – O Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath.  Be merciful to  me, Lord, for I am faint; O Lord, heal me, for my bones are in agony.

Romans 11:30-32 - Just as you who were at one time disobedient to God have now received mercy as a result of their disobedience, so they too have now become disobedient in order that they too may now receive mercy as a result of God’s mercy to you.  For God has bound all men over to disobedience so that he may have mercy on them all.

Think of a time when you rebuked someone (reminded them of a command – fed them), witnessed a change (repentance) and went on to show them Love (forgave them – showed mercy – gave them something to drink) in order to bring them back into fellowship with God:

If we Love, we will bring ourselves and others back into fellowship with God.

John 16:9 in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me;

John 15:26 When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me.

John 8:32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

God created us for fellowship, sin breaks fellowship with God.  Acceptance of Jesus Christ as our Savior, accompanied with confession, repentance and obedience, brings us (and others) back into fellowship, a pure and holy relationship with God.

Where shall we begin?

“Right in the corner where we are”.  Go and sin no more.  Go and Make Disciples, In Jesus Name, Amen.
