Prayer Requests

Small Care or Large Bible Study Group Leaders: It is recommended that Prayer Requests be reviewed during each Group Meeting, regardless of whether it is a Small Care Group Meeting, Large Bible Study Group Meeting, Social or Testimonies. Teach Group Members how to access and utilize the Church’s Prayer Room and the Church’s Prayer Website for Personal Prayer Requests. Keep Group Members informed about the Monthly Corporate Prayer Group Meetings where they will be able to become more familiar with the Counseling or Ministry Groups that the Church has to offer for their specific needs.

  (1) During Initial Small Care or Large Bible Study Group Meetings:
If this is a Random Ad-Hoc Gathering, you will not need to be so “rigid”. But it is recommended that you offer a time of Prayer at each Gathering.
If this material is to be used for Structured Gatherings, you will want to break down into Small Care Groups of 10+-, assigning Co-Leaders to help with all the In-Reach Phone Calls and to serve as the Small Care Group Leaders.
Announce that Prayer Slips can be found at the end of this Chapter suitable for cutting into prayer slips and repositioning to make copies, or feel free to use index cards for writing out Prayer Requests (name of requester, date of prayer & subject of prayer). This helps to draw out personal needs, cares, concerns and Praises to our God for His Faithfulness. Keep index cards (or paper pads) and pencils (or pens) available for Small Care Group Members.
In Large Bible Study Group Meetings, expect a mix of Corporate Prayer Requests and Personal Prayer Requests. Try to direct Corporate Prayer Requests to the Corporate Prayer Meetings and Personal Prayer Requests to the Small Care Group Meetings.
In Small Care Group Meetings, go around the room and let everyone share their immediate family member situations (spouse, sons, daughter-in-laws, daughters, son-in-laws, dads, moms, brothers & sisters). Initially, try to keep Prayer Requests to immediate family members. When ready to increase the prayer focus, consider adding other family members (grandparents, brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts & cousins). Later, consider taking prayer requests for co-workers and other friends. It is important to consider family members’ prayer needs first since so many of “spiritual issues” are “embedded” within families for generations. “Clearing the air” of family issues first helps to increase the prayer focus when praying for co-workers and other friends.
It is important to write out Prayer Requests for distribution (make copies or send emails) to Small Care Group Members after each meeting so they can get to know each other’s prayer needs and continue to pray for each other during the week. This teaches “how to care and pray for each other” without becoming critical or overwhelmed with the issues of life.
  Review Prayer Requests.

  (2) During Proceeding Small Care Group Meetings (see Course Format):

Corporate Prayer Group Meetings: Small Care Groups and Large Bible Study Groups seem to be the best place for Personal Prayer Requests, whereas Corporate Prayer Group Meetings seem to be the best place for Subject or Need Based Prayer Requests (serving as a time to “Blanket the Whole Bride of Christ” with need based prayers). Therefore, teach attendees how to access and utilize Small Care Groups, Large Bible Study Groups, Church’s Prayer Room and Church’s Prayer Website for Personal Prayer Requests. Keep attendees informed about upcoming Monthly Corporate Prayer Group Meetings where an introduction can be made to Counseling or Ministry Groups that the Church has to offer for Subject or Need Based Prayer Requests.

  (1) Ask Corporate Prayer Group to gather together (maybe on a Sunday Night) in a large room for a time of Praise & Worship (maybe along with a Church Business Meeting, New Member Announcements and/or Baptisms).
  (2) Ask attendees to break down into Small Prayer Groups of 10+-.
  (3) Ask someone (Counseling or Ministry Group Leaders) to lead the Corporate Prayer Group Agenda from the pulpit by reviewing Prayers by Subject.
  (4) Pause between each Subject or Need Based Prayer Request to give each Small Prayer Group time to intercede and pray for:
